Welcome to my world of art!
I've appreciated art my whole life and made my living as a writer, but had never considered creating my own art until I was diagnosed with breast cancer and suddenly felt the need to paint. (I'm fine now, thanks!). That diagnosis unleashed a "What the f#%%, I have my life to live, let's live it" philosophy. And so I took my first art class. I carried my grandmother's paint box (she was an artist) and my mother's voice in my head to go for it (she is also an artist). I love that I come from a line of women artists. It's a powerful feeling of community!
In my first art courses, I started sketching and instinctively was drawn to abstract art where I remain today. I like to sketch realistically in my sketch books, but when I'm painting, it's the abstract expressionism that unleashes my joy. Over the years, I've taken many, many classes and have honed my style, which continues to evolve as I experiment with new ideas.
I need to feel joy in the process of painting and I hope it's that feeling that resonates with you. Seeing art and creating art make my soul sing and is my happy place where I lose track of time and nothing matters except for the canvas in front of me. When painting in my studio, I love putting on music and just seeing what happens if I make this mark or mix these colors or put this collage element in. Color excites me and I can't get enough of it. I want my pieces to be filled with bits of intrigue, so you never get tired of looking at them and always find something new to capture your imagination.
