Welcome to my world of art!
I've appreciated art my entire life and made my living as a writer, but had never considered creating my own art until I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was then I felt the urge to paint. That diagnosis unleashed my inner artist, who I didn't know was laying in wait until I really needed her. And so I signed up for my first art class with Jill King, an amazing artist. I carried my grandmother's paint box full of her oil paints and my mother's voice in my head to go for it (she is also an artist). Coming from a line of women artists makes for an empowering community!
In my first art courses with Jill and later Janet Trierweiler, I was instinctively drawn to abstract art where I remain today. I like to draw representationally in my sketch books, but when I'm painting, it's the abstract expressionism that unleashes my joy. Over the years, I've taken many, many classes and have honed my style, which continues to evolve as I experiment with new ideas.
I need to feel joy in the process of painting and I hope that same feeling resonates with you when you look at my art. Seeing art in all things and creating art make my soul sing and is my happy place where I lose track of time and nothing matters except for the canvas in front of me.
When painting in my studio, I love putting on music and just seeing what happens if I make this mark or mix those colors or put in that collage element. Color excites me and I can't get enough of it. I also want my pieces to be filled with bits of intrigue, so you never get tired of looking at them and always find something new to capture your imagination.
Please let me know if you have any questions or want to know more about a particular painting. I'm happy to help!
